Poor guy! That Sinusin stuff our dr recommended really worked for us, and S didn't mind having it squirted up her nose at all (1 squirt/nostril, 3 times/day). Also helpful were periodic trips to the bathroom where we sat on the toilet with S while running the shower on full blast at super hot temps until the snot came flowing out of her nose. Sometimes we'd put a few drops of eucalyptus and lavender essential oils in there too for the extra decongested days. There were a couple days where we gave her 3-4 baths in a single day just to relax her (also with the oils - it helped). Mixing a few drops of those oils with a tablespoon or two of olive oil and rubbing it on her chest helped a lot too. Just stay away from the saline nose drops, decongestants, and the dreaded aspirator bulb, unless the little guy is so congested he can't eat at all. That aspirator bulb is pure evil, and beware that if you use it more than 2 or 3 times/day, you will probably inflame his nose and make the congestion even worse (we made this mistake on the first day of S's first cold... it was bad news).

Good luck!!

so you don't suck out the sinusin stuff?

i've got the humidifier going, but haven't thought to do the steam. duh. i did do the saline drops and bulb a couple of times, but he goes so ape shit that i stopped. the nurse did warn me not to do it more than a couple of times because of swelling. i'll have to look for the sinusin drops. he hasn't had a fever or anything, so i'm thankful for that. i think his throat may hurt, though, because his cry sounds a little hoarse.

oy. infants with colds are so much fun.

Nope, just leave it in. We also gave her Tylenol because she was really fussy and we thought she probably had a sore throat. It seemed to help her.

Awwww, well it will just make him stronger and build character and stuff!! (and i suppose antibodies, which are the "real" character builders! hehe)

Hope it goes well! :)

I'm sorry to hear he's got a cold. I hope he's better today . . . If he's still having some trouble breathing comfortably, perhaps you could prop his mattress just SLIGHTLY to elevate his head a little (if it's a crib mattress, just wedge a little something under the mattress so it's not a hazard).

For some reason, I think Mommy is suffering just a wee bit more than Baby . . . It's tough seeing your little man sick.
